Dr. Yusheng Bian is a Distinguished Engineer & Master inventor at GlobalFoundries (Linkedin), where he leads new product and Process Design Kit (PDK) development for the company’s monolithically integrated silicon photonics platform. His research expertise spans silicon photonics, nanophotonics, plasmonics, metamaterials, and acoustofluidics, with a focus on innovation and device integration for next-generation photonic technologies.

Dr. Bian has authored and co-authored more than 150 journal papers, conference publications, and invited presentations, including notable contributions to Laser & Photonics Reviews, Nanoscale, Small, Photonics Research, Scientific Reports, Nanotechnology, Applied Physics Letters, Optics Express, Optics Letters, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, Journal of Lightwave Technology, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, Journal of Optics, and Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, among others. His work has been cited over 3,300 times (h-index: 28, i10-index: 64), with more than 90 first-author publications and over 50 invited/contributed /postdeadline talks across top conferences, including 19 presentations at OFC, 17 at CLEO, and one at VLSI.

Dr. Bian holds an exceptional IP portfolio with over 560 worldwide patents and patent applications, including more than 260 issued patents and 300 pending applications, where he is the first inventor on more than 300 of these patents. He has been instrumental in designing and enabling over 70 PDK components for GlobalFoundries’ monolithic SiPh (Fotonix) platform and has contributed to more than 1,500 DOE macros across over 50 MPW tapeouts.

His contributions to the field have been recognized with multiple prestigious awards, including the 2023 SRC Mahboob Khan Outstanding Liaison Award, the GlobalFoundries Master Inventor distinction, the inaugural GFX Prize, and the inaugural Diversity in Inventorship Champion Award.

Dr. Bian also serves as an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Condensed Matter and Committee Member for CLEO and Optica Advanced Photonics Congress.​
